#1 - Lan Kwai Fong

The very best place in Hong Kong - no doubt about that - is Lan Kwai Fong.
The so-called LKF is based on Hong Kong Island and represents the most vivid party and nightlife district in Hong Kong. To let you experience the magic of an LKF student night, just follow the steps you can take here.

Nightlife in Lan Kwai Fong

In LKF, you will be faced with relatively high pricing in the good clubs and bars, which is why your first location of a good party night should be one of the 7Eleven's.

After having some delicious drinks at 7Eleven, you might want to change to a different location. Therefore, you should try to get one of the many Happy Hour offers in the surrounding bars. Check the following link to get the most for your money:

Now, you should be well prepared to have a good party night. It is now up to you whether you would like to go to a dance bar or a good club and what taste of music you have. Have a look at the following video to have a broad range of alternatives for your choice.

The best bars in Lan Kwai Fong

For both, I would like to share my current favorite with you. The best dance bar you can go to after pre game for me is the China Bar, which is located here:

If you are more into real clubbing, my hint for you is the Bungalow Club, which you can see beneath. It offers the finest electronic beats in the party district and sometimes even is out of charge to enter.

Finally, everything is up to you. But no matter which location you have chosen, you will be hungry afterwards. The best latenight restaurant can be found on Queen's Road Central, 37. As there is no picture, I just have one hint for you:

Look out for the big, golden M!

#2 - Mongkok

Mongkok, basically said, is a district at Kowloon peninsula which is in the very middle. It is a very vivid district, which is not going to offer you rooftop views, premium shops and many scyscrapers. Still, it is a very good location for many different things. Students first of all like to go there to get great street food and fresh fruits...

Next to great food for relatively little money, people also like Mongkok for its variety of stores to do shopping. If you are very much into Sneakers, try the Sneaker street, which is only a few steps away from the MTR station in Mongkok.

Interested? Go for it:

Although the variety of shoes is beautiful and larger than in any other place, many will struggle with the prices, which again is something typical for students. No worries - there is also a solution for that. The solution is called the Ladies Market. It does not only apply to shoes, but still offers all kinds of replica products for relatively little money - this is definitely worth a try. But watch out! Especially as a tourist, you need to bargain to get a fair price for the products you are looking for.

Finally, there is one special place which is the main reason why students start loving Mongkok.
The one and only Mr. WONG!
Mr. Wong's is the name of a small chinese restaurant which doesn't look too special at the first glance. But when you enter, history is in its making. For only HK$60, you will be offered an All You Can Eat of Spring Rolls, Peppered Pork, Sweet and Sour Fish, Dumplings, Rice and Broccoli with nuts. And this is not yet it. You will also get unlimited beer inlcuded in this offer. Some are asking themselves whether it is even lucrative for Mr. Wong, but it apparently is. In fact, it is the perfect preparation for a party night or just to have a large dinner with your friends. You don't believe it yet? Have a look at the link beneath and see how excited people are:

#3 - Victoria Harbor

Victoria Harbor is the Central point of Kowloon peninsula. It is the most southern point of the peninsula and it bears many opportunities for people from every age. To start, it offers a great view to the skyscrapers of Hong Kong island.

If you have enough of this view (which is actually going to take a while), you can do a lot more at Victoria Harbor. For example, the pier offers the ability to go to a ferry to take the view to an even better level...

After a nice boat ride, you might look forward to do something different. Victoria Harbor is all about the views and its great atmosphere. If you are lucky, you will be in Hong Kong around the Lunar New Year, which means you can go to the New Year's Fair and enjoy some time off.

Well, you are lucky if you experience the Lunar New Year in Hong Kong. But the probability is very low. No worries - Victoria Harbor has got even more for you. After all the activities that day, why wouldn't you enjoy a cool drink with an even more stunning view than from the pier. Is that even possible? YES:

Of course, going to such a rooftop bar is not the cheapest thing you can do, especially from a students point of view. To make the most out of this experience, have a look at the following link to find the perfect spot for your comfort and budget.

#4 - Lantau Island

Lantau Island is the largest peninsula of Hong Kong. It is situated in the south west of the Hong Kong territory and offers a wide range of activities to do and visit.

Lantau's map filled with interesting places

It used to be known as the island of prayer as it has a large amount of monasteries. Further, it has got stunning hiking trails, beautiful nature and is surely one of the most beautiful islands in old China. The video beneath will first of all offer some impression why this island is considered so special and what kind of natural phenomenons can be seen there.

YouTube: Impressions of Lantau Island's impressive nature

Especially places like the ten thousand Buddhas, the Big Buddha, the Tai O fishing village and Cheung Chau island are places that attract many visitors. Under the embedded video, you can find a picture of the Ten thousand Buddhas monestary, the Big Buddha, and Cheung Chau Island. Of course the are only few of the numerous places of such beauty.

As you can see, Lantau Island offers a wide range of impressive things and locations, especially for those spending their first time in Hong Kong. Nevertheless, this is only the 4th rank from a student's point of view. Well, how much better could it get? Follow my blog and see what I think...

#5 - Tuen Mun

Tuen Mun is the area of and around my university - an area which is part of the New Territories.  It is located in the north west of Hong Kong's territory. For me and my fellow students, this place is like the "home" place in the semester abroad, it is useful to get affordable food and even offers a very nice beach. As I study at Lingnan University, Fu Tei is my actual location.

The best dinner for my taste is the sweet and sour chicken balls at Home Fairy in the Fu Tei Mall. Definitely worth a try!

The beach is a good place for calm days and can be visited even between and after lectures because it does not take longer than 20 minutes to go there by bus or cab.
Don't forget to bring your sunscreen 😉

If the weather is not worth it to go to this wonderful beach, what about a
hiking trip to the Castle Peak?
